Ex Fabula: Gratitude

Art Montes

As many of us get ready for the food, the family, and the frustrating conversation with your conservative uncle, we at ExFabula are also prepping for a day of giving thanks.

We give thanks to all of you who have supported us for six seasons, our volunteers, audience, storytellers and members! We are incredibly grateful to be an organization that builds bridges between the divided communities of Milwaukee and will continue to create a new community of understanding and shared humanity. So on this Thanksgiving Eve, we’re taking a look at two very different stories about gratitude and wish you all a happy holiday weekend, however you may celebrate.

Our first story takes us back to March of this year. After attending one of our community storytelling workshops in February, Joel Dreasang was ready and willing to take the stage. Perhaps it’s his unassuming demeanor, or his ability to keep cool under pressure - whatever it is, Joel has an uncanny ability to get himself Off the Hook. Listen to learn how a little bit of gratitude and a lot of luck has kept Joel out of a lot of trouble.

Our second story is from our December 2011 Story Spectacular. We were all moved when Linda Muza decided accompany her favorite aunt on a trip Up North to visit Linda and her aunt’s extended family, a family Linda did not know and did not really need to know. As her aunt dealt with a cancer diagnosis, and the family rallied around both of the women, Linda found something she never knew she was missing.
