Ex Fabula: Resilience

Art Montes
Storyteller Molly Snyder

Resilience: the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. We often find our strength when facing certain defeat, or overwhelming odds. It’s resilience that says, “Keep fighting - I can beat this.” It’s no surprise, then, that Ex Fabula's archive is full of stories exemplifying the resilient spirit. We listen back to some audience favorites, featuring a spirit of toughness in the face of adversity.

It was March, 2013 when Kate Tellers took to the Ex Fabula stage,  for our “Green” StorySlam. Fresh out of college with dreams of being an actress, Kate took the road less traveled - moving to a small town in Massachusetts, rather than typical choice of New York or LA. She also took her first clerical job as a tax temp. What could possibly go wrong?  Kate shares a humorous tale with a sitcom-like cast of characters.

Next comes a story from the ever-resilient Molly Snyder, told at our November 2014 “My Nemesis” StorySlam.  You may recall seeing this set of instructions while traveling: “How to check for bedbugs in your hotel room.” Some people may be vigilant about checking every nook and cranny, others not so much; and sometimes, the buggers just get in, anyway. The later was the case for Molly - follow her "decent into madness" as she battles bedbugs taking over her home...and her life. It will leave you squirming.
