Ex Fabula: Vacation

Kathrine Schleicher
Storyteller Dana Lovrek

August is the most popular time of year to take a vacation. Some of us stay in town, while others go up north to squeeze all they can out of the nice weather, and some travel out-of-state to explore a new city or landscape. However we choose to spend our vacations, they tend to bring out the explorer in us.  While some people prefer the more traditional approach, of having a whole trip planned out in advance, others appreciate the surprise and wonder that a more 'improvised' vacation can bring.

This week, we bring you two stories from people who went out of their comfort zones...and lived to tell the tale.

Dana Lovrek shared her story in January, 2011, at the "It Gets Better" event. She recalls the time her family took a trip to Colorado.  After her father made an impulse buy at Walmart, things got interesting.

Another man liking to do things on a whim, Bob Pothier got engaged to his wife Virginia ten days after they met. He took to the stage in January 2010, speaking to the theme of "Busted".  That night, he recounted a story about his vacation on Myrtle Beach, which included a fair amount of mischief.
