Experimental Authenticity: SLV Explores Multiple Genres

SLV features Sean Dixon and Sandra Velasquez.

After an accidental collaboration at a shared practice space in Chinatown, NYC, Sandra Velasquez and Milwaukee native Sean Dixon formed the musical group SLV.

The group was recently on tour, passing through the Midwest. Before their Milwaukee show, SLV stopped by the Lake Effect studios.

Performing live as a two-piece, the group stays busy with multiple instruments each. “Ultimately, we’re not trying to always completely recreate what you hear on the album,” Dixon says. “We’re trying to do what’s best for the song with what we have.”

SLV’s songs are written by Velasquez, while Dixon usually puts together the arrangements.

“I think if I had to describe it in any way, I would say that it is a vibe,”  Velasquez says when describing the group sound. “The easiest and the hardest thing is to be yourself. It’s easy because, you are who you are, but it’s also hard because, what if people don’t like it?”

The group believes that people can tell the difference between acts trying to create something and acts that actually get enjoyment out of what they are doing.
