GAB: Wisconsin Should Not Allow Poll Watchers to Use Cameras

Wisconsin should continue banning election observers from taking photos or videos of people registering to vote or signing the poll book.

The Government Accountability Board issued that opinion on a 4-2 vote Monday, after members expressed concern that cameras could intimidate voters.

The decision now moves to the Legislature, where the Republican co-chairs of election committees had requested that cameras be allowed in polling places, to make sure people follow the law.

Already this year, the Legislature and Gov. Walker approved a law, allowing poll watchers to come as close as three feet to people checking in to vote.
