Karolina Cicha Sings in 9 Languages at Global Union

Czarli Bajka

The tenth anniversary of Alverno College’s world music festival Global Union happens Saturday in Humboldt Park.  The day-long festival features acts this year from West Africa, Quebec, Belgium… and Poland.

Polish singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Karolina Cicha will be joined by the equally talented Bart Palyga to play music from the Polish borderlands beginning at 2pm. The languages you'll hear range from Ukrainian to Lithuanian to Yiddish and Tartar – and also, of course, Polish. But the common denominator is music.

"Music is understandable everywhere," Cicha says. " That’s why I use music to be understood and to show how music is a tool of tolerance, communication beyond words."

Global Union begins at 12:30 Saturday afternoon, September 19 at Bay View's Humboldt Park.
