A Look at the Role UWM Plays in Milwaukee

HELAINE HICKSON
Mark Mone and Dave Edwards

Chancellor Mark Mone discusses UWM's role in the community as a large public research university with an access mission.

He says the region is on the verge of great change. "There's a lot of growth, there's investment, there's a new Bucks arena, there's neighborhood revitalization, there's powerful things that are happening, a lot of momentum," he says. Mone also stresses that there are challenges around poverty, education inequalities and other areas that exist here.

Mone points to UWM's mission of "having successful students and having prominent research, and pulling those together to engage them to look at societal issues" and the impact that it can have on the region.

Chancellor Mone also discusses college affordability, three year degree programs and the upcoming Democratic presidential debate at UWM with WUWM's Dave Edwards.
