About ten years ago, the name Frank Jude Jr. was a fixture in local news here. Jude won a substantial award after being the victim of a police beating outside a party thrown by a police officer in 2004.

And though Jude is no longer the high profile name that it once was, he has never faded entirely from the public scene. Nor have the controversy or legal issues around him.

Milwaukee Magazine's Matt Hrodey brings Jude's personal and legal saga up to date in this month's edition of the magazine. Today Jude has 10 different criminal convictions to his name, some misdemeanors and some involving domestic violence. It remains unclear how much his 2004 beating has impacted the trajectory of his life.

"The mental health professionals who have spoken with him have attributed a lot of it to, on the one hand, PTSD from the police beating that he suffered in 2004. Also, it's been described as a personality disorder with paranoid features," says Hrodey. "Also he's facing, just because of the severity of the attack and how it happened, the after effects of a traumatic brain injury which is kind of a whole issue in itself."
