Milwaukee Opera Theatre Gives "The Mikado" A Modern Twist

Milwaukee Opera Theatre

The Milwaukee Opera Theater might not be on the same scale as the Metropolitan Opera – and is certainly a bit cheekier, but they still take their work seriously… even if their productions are often tongue-in-cheek.

Their latest production is no exception.  Funny to begin with, The Mikadois a classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, with some significant tweaks, courtesy of our next guest.

Actor, composer, and playwright Jason Powell helped to update the piece for modern audiences, and will also be performing in the role of executioner.

He joined WUWM’s Rachel Owens and Milwaukee Comedy’s Matt Kemple in the studio recently to talk about the updates added in the new production:

The Mikado is currently running at The Milwaukee Opera Theatre, through March 29th.

Rachel is WUWM's Morning Edition host.
