Rousing applause greeted Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke when he took the stage at the Republican National Convention Monday night in Cleveland. The theme was “Make America Safe Again.” Clarke, who has been a steadfast supporter of presumptive nominee Donald Trump, has criticized the Black Lives Matter movement for disparaging law enforcement. His opening statement at the RNC was "blue lives matter."
During his speech, Clarke said the U.S. cannot be a great country, if citizens "do not feel safe in our homes, on our streets and in our homes...many Americans increasingly have an uneasiness about the ability of their families to live safely in this troubling times."
According to the Sheriff, a recent Gallup polls indicates that "more than half of all Americans now worry a great deal about crime and violence, up consistently and dramatically from just a few years ago, and for African Americans, that number is 70%," Clarke said.
Clarke said safety starts with people's acceptance to play society's rules - the rule of law, and that no public official, no private citizen and no group of people no matter what the cause "can claim privilege above the law."
