Author Chris Guillebeau has made a name for himself encouraging people to think differently.

Or, as he puts it, he encourages the art of non-conformity, which is also the name of his first book and blog.

His second book, The $100 Startup, is a New York Times best seller. Guillebeau chronicled real life efforts of small-scale entrepreneurs who start businesses on a shoestring budget, countering the idea that one needs to get a loans or spend a bundle on a new business.

Guillebeau is also an avid traveler, having completed a personal quest to visit every country on the globe. And quests are the subject of his latest book, The Happiness of Pursuit. In it, he sought out people have, or are on, personal missions. These are more than mere goals, and from the outside they often seem outrageously unachievable or outlandish. Guillebeau spoke with Lake Effect’s Dan Harmon about why he chose the topic.

"What I want to encourage people to do is to cultivate the value of adventure in their lives, whatever that looks like," says Guillibeau. "I want to encourage people to pursue big things, to build something, to work towards something, to strive. And that takes on different forms for different people."

Dan Harmon was one of the original members of Lake Effect (formerly At Ten). He started at WUWM in November of 1998 and left December of 2015 after 17 years of production.
Audrey is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
