Mark Mone became UW-Milwaukee’s new chancellor this week.
He had served as interim chancellor since earlier this year, when Mike Lovell left to lead Marquette University.
Lovell, and a couple chancellors before him, had big ideas for UWM, including the School of Freshwater Sciences and the Zilber School of Public Health.
Mone says he’ll support those projects. Yet he also has his own agenda and priorities.
“What we have to do, is not go down and identify new additional things that are big, shiny new objects, but succeed in those things that we have made commitments to over the last three chancellors. Those big, bold new directions we have to execute well, we have to find resources to support them, because we can’t fail in those areas, they’re simply too important to this region, they’re too important to our students, our faculty research and the other engagements that we have,” Mone says.
Mone has an extensive history with UWM. He’s been on the faculty since 1989, and served for more than 15 years as the Lubar School of Business Associate Dean for Executive Education and Business Engagement.
