The Politics Surrounding Milwaukee's Proposed Streetcar & Bucks Arena

milwaukeestreetcar.com

Opponents of a proposed downtown Milwaukee streetcar project are continuing to collect signatures in an effort to get the issue before voters. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Common Council plans to hold its final up or down vote on the project at its February 10th meeting.

The controversy is drawing national attention and comes as another potential major development got a boost yesterday when Governor Scott Walker announced his support for a so-called "jock tax" to help build a new basketball arena.

Editor at UrbanMilwaukee.com, Bruce Murphy has written about both issues and he spoke with Lake Effect's Mitch Teich about the developments and voter confusion surrounding these issues.

"They may think they're signing something that will stop the streetcar, but they're simply signing something that says we have to have a referendum on whether to have referendums on this topic," Murphy says.
