A Preview of UWM's 18th Annual Festival of Films in French

For almost two decades, the French department at UWM and various partners have presented a series of films in French to the public.

The films originate from countries around the world, from Canada to France to Africa. Most feature English subtitles, and there are frequently talk-back opportunities as well.

Sarah Davies Cordova and Nicholas Russell are professors of French and organizers of the festival, and they joined Lake Effect's Bonnie North with a preview of some of the films included in the festival, and an inside perspective on how they select the films.

"Sometimes it's much easier to see it through another place, another set of problems that seem a little bit distant. But then we can reflect back and see how they relate to some of the same issues that we're dealing with here in Milwaukee," says Cordova.

The 18th Annual Festival of Films in French runs this Friday through February 15 with seventeen films being screened and four special events.
