Sauvignon Blanc: The Perfect Summer Wine

Wine lovers know that summer is perhaps the best time for white wines. They offer a sweet, refreshing taste that can cool off even the hottest August afternoons. There are a plethora of wines to choose from, but Lake Effect wine contributor Ray Fister, says this is the season for sauvignon blanc.

The perfect summer wine, sauvignon blanc can be paired with almost anything. "In a way it's like how beer makes you feel on a summer day. It just tastes great going down," says Fister. "That first swig... it is summer. It's just beautiful."

Fister says it's worth trying sauvignon blanc for breakfast (in moderation, of course). And while some might suggest bottles in the $20-$35 range, Fister says you don't need to spend a small fortune to find a nice bottle."There are a lot of great $10 sauvignon blancs," he says. For a quality wine that won't break the bank, he suggests trying wines that originate in New Zealand or Australia.

Ray Fister is the creator of the Life Between the Vines podcast, and owner of Fifth Floor Recording Company in Milwaukee’s Fifth Ward.
