Three Wisconsin Hospitals Designated to Care for Ebola Patients

The Dept. of Health and Human Services has declared 35 U. S. hospitals prepared to treat Ebola victims, including two medical centers in Milwaukee.

The two are Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

The University of Wisconsin Health system, in Madison, is also on the federal list as are four hospitals in Chicago and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

According to the federal agency, nearly everyone who returns from West Africa to the U.S. will be within 200 miles of a treatment center.

President Obama reminded Americans Tuesday, that the fight against the deadly Ebola virus must remain a priority and be tackled in hard-hit West Africa.

He says recent advances toward the development of an Ebola vaccine appear exciting, but that there are no guarantees it will work. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health reported last week, that a potential vaccine appears to trigger immune protection with no serious side effects.

The NIH has been testing the shot on volunteers in the U.S. and plans to conduct larger studies in West Africa.
