What The Expansion Of Same-Sex Marriage Means Locally

The Supreme Court yesterdaydeclined to take up an appeal of a ruling overturning Wisconsin’s same-sex marriage ban, and that of four other states.

And with that, same-sex marriage once again became legal here, with Milwaukee County’s Clerk announcing he would issue marriage licenses to lesbian and gay couples.

The Supreme Court’s announcement was unexpected in many quarters. Louis Weisberg, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Wisconsin Gazette, speaks with Lake Effect's Mitch Teich.

"When I first started working in the gay press, which was in 1991, this was like something that was in 'The Jetsons,' it was so far into the future. We couldn't even have conceived of this," Weisberg says.
