Wisconsin GOP Voters Still Prefer Outsiders in Presidential Primary Poll

At the top of the GOP heap in Wisconsin is surgeon Ben Carson (22%), according to the new Marquette Law School Poll

Behind him are business mogul Donald Trump (19%) and Florida Senator Marco Rubio (19%). Two months ago, Trump led Carson 20%-16%, with Rubio next at 14%.

On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (50%) leads, followed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (41%).

“One of the things we see in the data is that there is, especially on the Republican side, a preference for someone who is a true outsider and not part of the political establishment," says poll Director Charles Franklin.

Franklin says his November poll also finds that most Wisconsin voters - from both parties, prefer political compromise in order to achieve goals.

Among the poll's other findings are that Gov. Walker’s approval rating remains low among voters (38% approve, 58% disapprove), and that quite a few Wisconsin voters are not familiar with - or lack opinions on big issues legislators are tackling. Those include scrapping the state’s civil service system and the Government Accountability Board.

Regarding the Wisconsin race for U.S. Senate, Russ Feingold leads Sen. Ron Johnson, 49%-38%.
