Tally of Absentee Ballots Begins Early

Among Tuesday’s duties for the City of Milwaukee Election Commission is the tabulation of thousands of absentee ballots.

Commission Executive Director Neil Albrecht says more than 22,000 people in Milwaukee voted absentee in this fall’s elections. More than two-thirds of the votes were cast through in-person, early voting. 290,000 absentee ballots were cast statewide.

Albrecht says all the absentee ballots are assembled in one facility on Milwaukee’s near north side. Counting begins at 7:00 a.m., when polls open. It can last until after the polls close at 8:00 p.m.

Albrecht predicts strong in-person turnout at the polls on Tuesday, based on how many people chose to vote early.
